Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced professional to design and develop an online/digital training toolkit focused on Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Trauma-Informed Training from an Indigenous Lens. This toolkit will be used as a resource for staff, service providers and community organizations.

Gladue After Care Worker

Gladue Aftercare Worker

We are currently accepting cover letters and resumes for the full-time contract position of Gladue Aftercare Worker under the Indigenous Justice Program of NAWN. This role is vital in supporting Indigenous Individuals who have been involved in the criminal justice system, and who have received or are in the process of receiving a Gladue Report, as part of their court process. This position provides culturally safe, trauma informed person-centered aftercare and reintegration support.

The Aftercare Worker will work closely with the Gladue Writers, Elders, service providers, correctional institutions, probation officers, and community organizations to ensure wraparound supports are in place.

Key Responsibilities:

• Works closely with Indigenous Individuals who had a Gladue Report submitted to the Court at any time in the past, or who are awaiting a Gladue Report that has been commissioned on their behalf.

• Conduct intake assessments to identify individual’s needs (housing, mental health, addictions, cultural supports, employment, etc.)

• Works closely with adults and young people to provide case and file management by assisting individuals to follow through with recommendations of their Gladue Report upon sentencing.

• Provide one to one case management, including crisis support, appointment reminders and advocacy with service providers.

• Coordinate with Elders cultural teachings and land-based activities to support well-being.

• Maintain regular check-ins (in-person or virtual depending on location and travel feasibility)

• Work in partnership with the Gladue Writers and Justice team to provide direct support advocacy and appropriate referrals in a timely manner.

• Promote understanding of aftercare services to both justice partners and community members.

• Coordinate access to Elders for counselling, cultural teachings and support circles.

• Provide support navigating probation conditions, court orders, and community service requirements.

• Coordinate community reintegration for people returning from correctional facilities, including pre-release planning.

• Maintain confidential case notes, progress reports and intake/assessment documents.

• Track program outcomes and prepare monthly and quarterly reports as required.

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary education in community and justice services, social sciences, health-related disciplines, or equivalent experience

• Knowledge of the judicial system, and related court decisions regarding Indigenous persons.

• Certification in Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, and/or SafeTalk (preferred)

• Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and Standard First Aid

• Experience working on trauma-informed initiatives

• Experience working with Indigenous communities

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SurveyMonkey, Zoom, and related platforms

• Strong organizational and planning skills

• Comfort with traditional ceremonies and culturally based programming

• Experience working respectfully with Elders and community members

• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills

• Positive and strong team collaboration skills

Requirements and Contract Information

• Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (required)

• Valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle

• Travel within the region and province is required - travel allowances provided for out-of-town travel

Location: In person – Stephenville, NL

Reports to: Gladue Program Manager/Executive Director

Contract Length: April 1, 2026 – March 31, 2027 Rate of Pay: $32. per hour

Hours: 35 hours per week (daytime, evenings, weekends)

Mental Health Counsellor

We would like to hire a Mental Health Counsellor to work with us in our office. This is a term position until March 31, 2025. 

The successful individual will work from our office located at 90 Main Street, Stephenville, to provide mental health counseling and group programming for Indigenous people. Work hours will include a combination of weekdays, weekends and evenings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To engage constructively and respectfully with individuals of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, abilities, and identities.

  • Provide individual and group therapy to adults and children, including, but not limited to working concurrently with parents and/or other service providers.

  • Assessment of the client’s psychological, emotional, and physical status.

  • Assessment of the level of danger the client faces and all safety risks.

  • Confidentially maintain client files as per organizational policies and procedures.

  • Advocate for clients, initiating strategies that will guide the client toward therapeutic solutions.

  • Function as a team member to develop case plans that meet the client’s needs.

  • Network to develop collaborative relationships with relevant government and community agencies to build community capacity and link clients to support services.

  • Participate in the evaluation of the program's effectiveness and efficiency and work for continual improvement of services.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and with traditional ceremonies

  • Must be a licensed clinical social worker or professional Counsellor

  • Experience providing individual counseling and facilitating support groups

  • Knowledge and understanding of trauma-focused therapy

  • Knowledge and understanding of family systems and strength-based approach to practice

  • Experience working with survivors of intimate partner and family violence, sexual trauma, and child abuse is required

  • Knowledge and understanding of the cycle of violence and safety planning

  • Knowledge and understanding of community resources

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills

  • Be a team member and participate in organizations initiatives

  • Must provide a Criminal record and Vulnerable Sector check

Contract Length: until March 31, 2025
35 hours per week daytime, evenings, and weekends
Location: Stephenville, NL

There will be some travel within the region or province, travel allowances for out-of-town travel.
